25 Days to $100K Freelancer Challenge!

That's an extra $200 a day slipping through your fingers like pancake syrup. Over the course of the next five years, that's the equivalent of $375,000—or the house of your dreams (with the adorable garden!) Over the course of the next ten years of your life, that's nearly a million dollars getting shaved off the top of your earnings—enough to send all three of your children to Harvard, or travel the world non-stop staying at a Hilton every single night, or be able to pay off all your debt and lavish yourself in Chanel, or live comfortably and happily and blissfully whole, doing what you love, buying the expensive cheese (imported from Paris, suckas), and never having to worry about money again.

Because, #REALTALK: over the course of a lifetime, that "lost money" creates an even wider gap. Three million, four million, five million dollars is enough to change the outcome of your life forever. If you want to help your family, now you can. If you want to go to that cute language school in Brussels, now you can. If you want to invest in Airbnb properties, now you can. If you want to take a month to hit up that yoga retreat, now you can. If you want to retire in a few years, now you can. Or, hey, if you just want to feel like a responsible adult who has their sh*t together, NOW YOU CAN.  

Because make no mistake: we're surrounded by money. Despite how it sometimes feels, money is everywhere! It's in the pockets of every single person who passes you on the street, it's in their bank accounts, and it's in their budgets, too. There is no shortage of money—it's simply a matter of learning how to get it. Trust me: your money story is not your clients', and they would be THRILLED to give you their money if you can solve their problems.

But we forget that—or maybe we never knew. We get shy when it comes to money and business—especially when we're the product. And so you end up leaving countless of hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table every year, not because you aren't good at what you do, but because you aren't good at being in the business of what you do. Imagine if you had a sea of free and clear cash buried in your backyard, right underneath the topsoil, and never knew about it—that's what it's like when you work for yourself but don't know that the money is right in front of your face. (And to think: all of that stress for nothing!) 

In fact, most freelancers are only earning 1/4 of what they should (and could!) be earning in today's marketplace. One. Freaking. Fourth. But they've resigned themselves to accepting slim pickings, because when humans are unsure of themselves, they accept the unacceptable. But imagine if you only got 1/4 of the house you just bought? Imagine if you only got 1/4 of the food you ordered? And imagine if you only earned 1/4 of the money you should? 

Choosing to exercise only one-fourth of your financial potential is like choosing to be only one-fourth happy. In other words, no one would do that consciously.

But what if the difference between a $25,000 year and a $100,000 year had nothing to do with your conscious efforts, and everything to do with all the stuff you didn't know you should be doing? 

If my crystal ball is accurate, you're scrambling around feeling uncertain about everything. I know you're feeling overwhelmed and lost and not sure if what you're doing is right. I know you're overanalyzing your every move and second-guessing yourself at every turn. I know you feel like you're standing at the base of a mountain trying to push a boulder up it. And I know that, like all new freelancers, you feel like a big, fat imposter most days. 

But that's OKAY. Being overwhelmed means that you realize just how much you didn't know you didn't know. 

You could spend the rest of the year stumbling around in the dark, trying to figure it out as you go. You could just hope for the best. And you could just leave an extra $75K on the table, this year and every year thereafter, because you're too overwhelmed to think about it.
